We have several developed assignments suitable for all levels of social work education. These assignments have been used in Human Behavior in the Social Environment courses as well as social theory, policy, leadership and clinical courses.

Sample assignments:

  • One assignment prompts students to investigate their local community’s histories of social movements and critically evaluate social work’s role in those events.  Students use social media to document their learning and boost organizations and communities impacted by their social work elders and role models.

  • A second assignment promotes exploration of archival material to augment their knowledge of their identified community and social work elders.

  • Another invites students to visit the Social Work Hall of Distinction inductee page and write about an inductee in a field or community of particular interest to them.

Each assignment highlights the  impact one person can have on policy, practice, and advocacy.

Interested in weaving critical social work history into your class? We’re happy to help!
